“As a classroom community, our capacity to generate excitement is deeply affected by our interest in one another, in hearing one another’s voices, in recognizing one another’s presence.”
― bell hooks, Teaching To Transgress: Education as the Practice of Freedom
I am a first-generation woman of color, of Indigenous descent in higher education. As a student, I always feared speaking in classes and asking for help. As an educator, my goal is to support students who come from similar backgrounds to mine to thrive in higher ed. I have taught a variety of courses at The University of Texas, Austin, St. Edwards University and Huston-Tillotson University. Outside college campuses, I have also taught English to members of the Nahua community in the Huasteca Region, Mexico and in the diaspora.
